Elections

The Convention People's Party (CPP) is a political party in Ghana, based on the ideas of former President Kwame Nkrumah.

The CPP was formed in 1949 by Kwame Nkrumah to campaign for the independence of the Gold Coast. It ruled Ghana from 1957 to 1966. During the latter part of the CPP rule, the constitution was changed to make it the only legal party in Ghana, making the nation a one-party state. The party was banned after the February 24, 1966 coup d'état by the National Liberation Council. Parties following in its tradition have used various names.[1] The party was reformed from some of the Nkrumah factions in 1996.

>>> [] Creation

The United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) had been formed in 1947 with the goal of bringing about independence for Ghana. Kwame Nkrumah thought the UGCC's opposition to the colonial rulers lacked the necessary vehemence and urgency; he wanted immediate independence. Breaking from the UGCC on these grounds, he founded the CPP with the motto "self-government now". On 9 January 1950 the CPP called for countrywide boycotts and strikes. In the course of these, two policemen were shot dead, and the CPP leadership was arrested and imprisoned. This only increased Nkrumah's popularity. When general elections were held in 1951, the CPP won decisively despite the imprisonment of Dr Nkrumah and other party leaders. Nkrumah was subsequently released to form the colony's first African government. [2]

>>> [] CPP Achieves Independence

With all this background, Nkrumah formed his first African cabinet in the British Empire in 1951. This was not independence yet. He still rejected the idea that local rulers who favored the British should be given a role in governing, since he viewed them as undemocratic. Ironically, he would eventually become head of a one-party state.

In 1956 further elections were held, with the British promising that if the majority of the people called for it, a date for independence would be set. The CPP won 71 out 104 seats, paving the way for Ghana to gain its independence on 6 March, 1957. In 1958, two pieces of legislation approved by the CPP would help hasten Nkrumah's downfall. One was the Trade Union Act, which made strikes illegal, and the Preventive Detention Act, which allowed the government to detain political opponents without trial. The stage was set for the overthrow of the CPP in 1966 in a coup d’état by the National Liberation Council.

After the coup, the CPP was banned.

>>> [] CPP rebirth

The CPP remained dissolved till January 29, 1996, when the National Convention Party and the People's Convention Party merged to form a new Convention People's Party.[3] The CPP has contested each election since 1996.

At the elections, 7 December 2004, the party won 3 out of 230 seats. Its candidate in the presidential elections, George Aggudey, won only 1.0% of the vote.

In the 2008 presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana, the party won one parliamentary seat; that of Samia Nkrumah in the Jomoro constituency. The presidential candidate, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom performed below expectation managing to get 1.4% of total valid votes.

Kwame Mayor Congratulates Nana Akuffo Addo and Throws a Bombshell --- "Don't Run on Kufuor's 'Waa-Waa Record" --- (Hints "Octopus Paul Was Angry at 'Allan Cash')
By Tsitsi-Mashinini ---- Good Morning News
NPP's Flagbearer, Nana Akuffo Addo has received an un-usual congratulatory message from aspiring 2012 CPP Presidential Candidate and former Ghanaian-American Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate who ran for Parliamentary seat at Nhyiaeso Constituency in Kumasi, Ashanti Region --- "Osagyefo Dr" Kwame Appiah Boateng, "Kwame Mayor", who had earlier endorsed the un-successful Candidacy of Allan Kwadwo Kyerematen, "Allan Cash", for Solidarity reasons -- publicly advising NPP not to run on the 'Waa-Waa' record of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and also publicly advising the NDC camp not to run on the "Blood --Thirsty and Ritual --Murders record' of Jerry John Rawlings", and turning to the NPP's Congress --- hinting that World Cup's "Oracle of Delphi", Octopus Paul may have been angry at "Allan Cash" for putting words in its mouth that it had selected him --- hence Nana Akuffo Addo's Landslide victory.
 (It should be noted that although "Osagyefo Dr" Kwame Mayor's had endorsed "Allan Cash", he had publicly informed Ghanaians on July 23, 2010 via News and Press Release that Octopus Paul had appeared in his dream (before the election), and that in that dream, the Octopus had reversed from choosing Allan Kwadwo Kyerematen and instead, had chosen Nana Akuffo Addo as the 2012 NPP Flagbearer".
   " Octopus Paul, in my dream, asked Allan Kyerematen to condemn and distance himself from former President John Agyekum Kufuor who systematically stole my strategic ideas and abused his powers to persecute me for politically-motivated reasons, but "Allan Cash" did not listen, hence his un-precedented electoral defeat", said the "People's Politician" who speaks the truth and nothing but the truth.
     " Overall, former President John Agyekum Kufuor had excellent record on Human Rights, Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Expression, but that ends there".
   "The World Community should forgive, but never forget that Kufuor systematically stole my ideas and abused his office to persecute and torture my life for politically-motivated reasons".
   " Kufuor was lucky that the White House spared him in the same way the United Nation's Tribunal has so far, spared former Military Junta Leader, Jerry John Rawlings who used "Black Gold" to persecute, kill, torture and humiliate Ghanaians, in the same way as Charles Taylor used "Black Diamonds" to kill, torture and persecute his own People of Liberia and the People of Sierra Leone", said the former Precinct Captain for President Barack Obama's campaign.
    "It would be political suicide for anybody to run on former President John Agyekum's (other record) of being a notorious 'PNDC Collaborator' who once selfishly, greedily, and callously served a brutal PNDC Military government under former Military Junta Leader, Jerry John Rawlings who executed People without fair trials; persecuted Ghanaians of (all) tribes, especially, the brutal and un-precedented persecutions against Asantes; and supervised the stripping of women naked and beating of Women on their private parts in public, etc, etc.
   " Yes, the same Kufuor once served Jerry John Rawlings whose AFRC Military regime murdered Rear Admiral Joy Yao Amedume, and under whose AFRC regime --- the coward Major (retired) Boakye Djan singled out the brave Okatakyie Akwasi Amankwa Afrifa for a savagery public execution.
Meanwhile, buoyed by his huge success in calling for one of the largest Immigrants' Rights (Peaceful and Non-Violent) Protests in the history of United States of America on July 29, 2010 --- (but shocked and dismayed that despite his daily and aggressive promotion of the Convention People's Party (CPP) in his own Native Country of Ghana, the leadership of his Political Party forgot entirely about him when they shared Shadow Cabinet positions --- and expressing concern that the Party's action was "Elitist") --- Charismatic 2004/2008 CPP Parliamentary Candidate for Nhyiaeso Constituency in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, and former Ghanaian-American Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate, "Osagyefo Dr" Kwame Appiah Boateng, popularly known by Ghanaians around the World as "Kwame Mayor", has openly declared on his Campaign Website : WWW.KwameforPresident.Com --- that he is the "CPP Shadow President" --- in protest against his exclusion from the Party's Shadow Government experiment.
"Osagyefo Dr" Kwame Mayor is an alumnus of the prestigious University of Southern California (USC), and anticipated Ph.D. in Political Science at the equally prestigious Claremont Graduate University (CGU), and is highly regarded by American Public officials as "more educated than 70 % of America's population" as well as a highly sophisticated Intellectual.
The self proclaimed re-incarnation of Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who has always sparred CPP from public attacks --- in view of his membership of Dr. Nkrumah's Party, and has for many years, systematically attacked both the NDC and NPP, pointed out that the action of CPP leadership reflects what they would do if the Party were to win political power again.
   " While I was in the trenches fighting like the legendary Nelson Mandela, against the abominable and extraordinary Human Rights abuses; Blood-Thirstiness, Bizarre Terrorism, First-Class Hypocrisy and Hi-Tech Corruption of former Military Junta Leader, Jerry John Rawlings, and while I was also fighting the greediness, corruption, selfishness and arrogance of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, where were those elitists ?, asked the Ghanaian-born "America's Mandela", whose very biological Great-Grand Fathers from the Adonteng Puduo Royal Family of Bamang, near the Kente weaving Town of Bonwire in the Ashanti Region of Ghana --- in their capacity as Asante War Generals, gallantly led Asante Kingdom's glorious wars against Colonialism and Imperialism, perpetuated on African Soil by "Our British White Brothers and Sisters".
"Osagyefo Dr" Kwame Mayor said a [few] over-ambitious CPP Folks act selfishly and ignorantly, instead of treating all CPP members as Comrades".
   " Whereas I see them as Comrades, a [few] Power-Drunk and Over-Ambitious among them regard my Powerful Pen as a political threat, and instead of treating me as a Comrade, they are worried about my Political ambition to seek CPP Flagbearership", said the CPP Firebrand who has publicly announced plans to raise money to lead the Party of Ghana's first President, as its 2012 Flagbearer.
   "Thank God Almighty that 99.9% of CPP Comrades are Good People", said the "People's Politician" who says that as soon as he raises substantial amount of money for his Political Campaign, he would definately emerge as the Flagbearer of CPP.
Returning to his endorsement of Nana Akuffo Addo, "Osagyefo Dr" Kwame Mayor again reminded Ghanaians that although former President John Agyekum Kufuor had impressive Human Rights record, his other record of systematically stealing his "Osagyefo Dr" Kwame Mayor's strategic ideas and turning around to abuse his office to persecute him was not impressive at all".
   "Once again, NPP should not run on Kufuor's 'Waa-Waa' record" --- in the same way as (nobody) should run on the 'Blood - Thirsty and Ritual-Murders record' of Jerry John Rawlings and Major (Retired) Boakye Djan, said the Ghanaian born "America's Mandela".
